ASF is run by students of the Antwerp Maritime Academy. We come from different countries, speak different languages, but we are united by our common purpose. We work on the project according to our skills and preferences, and constantly learn from each other.
Augustin is an extroverted person who knows how to enjoy life. Thirsty for adventure and discovery, he is enthusiastic about meeting people, cultures… As Tarbarly would say “men need passions to exist”. His hobbies are simple, he obviously loves sailing, the sea and the oceans, he also loves mountains, treks and sport.
A former Sea Scout leader, Bastien has a great passion for the sea and knows how to motivate a team. When he is not studying for school, you will find him lost in big IT manuals, learning everything about SSL certificates. Bastien is part of ASF’ communication team, is involved in the voyage planning and is our webmaster.
Christian speaks Lingala, Kikongo, French and English. Christian comes from D.R. Congo. He is open to new experiences and like learning new things. He joined ASF to acquire new experiences within an ecological project. Christian is working on voyage planning.
Present at the previous edition, Joachim again shares with us all his experience in this new adventure. Helpful, full of humour and eloquent, Joachim fulfils his role as spokesperson for the project to perfection. In addition to this role, Joachim is also in charge of the administrative aspect of the project. He also does not hesitate to lend a hand with the other tasks of the project.
Having grown up in Le Havre, Mathis has always been surrounded by the sea. Discovering the sailing profession at a very young age thanks to his family circle, Mathis embarked for the first time at the age of 8. His choice was made, he will be a Merchant Marine Mechanic Officer. This dream, this vocation, has since followed him. Mathis made his first steps with the French Navy in the field of nuclear propulsion and has been back to his first love, the Merchant Navy, for 3 years.
Océane is currently in the second year of Nautical Sciences and 20 years old. Active in sports at a high level and used to teaching sailing to children, she is a real asset to the team. Interested in our environment, she would like to work aboard oceanographic vessels to discover our seas. She joined ASF to take part in an adventure, create links with new people and raise awareness of the dangers to the environment.
Participant in the first edition of ASF, Samuel has many qualities in sailing and is a highly motivated student with good seamanship skills. He is always open to the approach and learning new experiences. And the most important, he loves the sea! Samuel is active in the search for private sponsors for the project.
An experienced catamaran sailor, as well as a graduate from Antwerp Maritime Academy, Sophie knows her way on the water. She has sailed with ASF in 2018, and somehow got shanghaied into the next edition. Her skill and knowledge made her a perfect fit for the voyage planning of the project, which she is in charge of.
Having sailed along with ASF’s very first edition in 2018, Tibo knew exactly what he was signing on for (again) when he joined the organising team of ASF 2021. Hard-working and quick-witted, he is part of the fundraising department, where his skills find many applications.
Titouan comes to us from Liège and is 21 years old. He had the crazy idea to buy a sailing boat as a student room to study nautical sciences. Neophyte in the field of sailing, he intends to perfect his knowledge thanks to ASF. The leap into the unknown and the discovery of a part of the maritime world pushed him to join this project. Titouan is part of the fundraising team.
